How Does It Work?

Tattoo pigment sits deep within the skin. During treatment, laser energy is directed at the pigment, causing the ink particles to break into smaller fragments. Over the weeks that follow, your body gradually processes and clears those particles.

Because tattoo ink is placed in layers, multiple sessions are typically needed for the best possible fading.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Most patients should plan on a series of treatments. We generally recommend approximately 6–10 sessions, although every tattoo responds differently.

The number of treatments needed can depend on:

• Tattoo size

• Ink color

• Amount and density of pigment

• Depth of the tattoo

• Age of the tattoo

• Whether it was professionally or amateur applied

• How your individual body responds to treatment

Treatments are typically spaced at least eight weeks apart to allow your body time to process the fragmented pigment and your skin time to recover.
